frankie_knuckles_2014Hey Moogfest attendees, this looks like a fun event. Here’s the note I received:

Dear Ashvegas,
I’m hoping you can post the following event: A Tribute to the Life and Music of Frankie Knuckles, that I am organizing for 4/24 at Scandals Nightclub from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. This will happen during Dine Out For Life Week and is part of the Asheville after-party for those dining out that evening. This also coincides with MOOGFEST, but it is not a MOOG event – it just so happens to be an electronic music event happening at the same time. People can attend MOOGFEST, but then head over to Scandals on that Thursday night after the last show to celebrate the life of the ‘godfather’ of house music.
My DJ name is DJ Tony Z and I am a recent transplant to Asheville. I’ve lived in NC since 2010, moving from NYC where I spent 15-years. I’m originally from Boston. I have worked in the house/dance music industry since the late 80s as a DJ, A&R Coordinator and artist manager. I was also responsible for launching Netmix.com, which was the first site to stream DJ mixshows in the world in 1995. It is now my blog and where I host my Netmix podcast.
Here is the Netmix event page at: https://www.facebook.com/events/646793018726982/

Here is the blurb about the party:

Celebrate the life and music of the “godfather of house,” Frankie Knuckles. DJ Tony Z (Asheville) will spin Frankie Knuckles classic remixes and original productions on vinyl as well as other house music bombs from the 80s and 90s.

There will be a drag show performance at midnight.

FREE ADMISSION

20% of all gross sales will benefit the Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP).

Stay tuned for more details and a possible special guest DJ from NYC.

Here’s the Rolling Stone obituary for Frankie Knuckles.
