TMZ.com: Gladys Knight is rehabbing old Canton school

TMZ reports that singer Gladys Knight, who lives in the Asheville area, is planning to raise $2 million to renovate an old school building in Canton and make it into a community recreation center.

The mother of Knight’s husband, Billy McDowell, worked at the old school, according to TMZ. It is a segregation-era building with community history the two hope to preserve. They’ve already spent $85,000 on the project, TMZ reports.
