I had a great tour of Thirsty Monk’s newest location in Biltmore Park earlier this week. Folks, go check this place out. Thirsty Monk has everything in order and will be pouring beer on Saturday for a soft opening. Full food and drink offerings will come next week. Grand opening is set for Oct. 17. The Monk has space for about 150 people indoors and out. There is a ton of communal seating, including big church pews, 20-foot picnic tables and a 65-foot-long main bar featuring reclaimed wood salvaged from the old livestock market site in the RAD. There will be 40 beers on tap that will include some Belgian beers; there will also be plenty of Belgians in bottles. And there’s an awesome speakeasy space in the back that seats about 20 people interested in cool craft cocktails. You’ll have to push open a bookcase that serves as the speakeasy doorway to get in. (The Thirsty Monk just opened another speakeasy above its downtown location on Patton Avenue.)
A full kitchen means more food offerings. Chef Leisa Payne, formerly of Sunny Point Cafe in West Asheville, will be at the helm. More on that to come next week.
There’s a fermenting room at the site, where the Monk will be finishing off some of its own beer. Big roll-up windows out front offer a nice inter-play between indoors and out (there’s a walk-up window to serve beer and food to the folks sitting outside.) And there are no televisions. Perfect!
Thirsty Monk is located in the space that formerly was home to Sensibilities Day Spa in Biltmore Park; enter Biltmore Park and just keep going straight through the first big intersection and through the traffic circle, and you’ll see Thirsty Monk on the left, next to Natural Impressions Salon.

Awesome awesome awesome. Amazing beer list for soft opening and plenty of seating inside and out. Can’t wait for the grand opening this week when food arrives. This a well done classy joint in Biltmore Park that the only competition will be Hickory Tavern. If your looking for a place to watch TV, play corn hole or role around in the grass this is not it. It is a well put together place for socializing and responsible beer drinking. Great addition to south Asheville.
