IMG_9285The Rhu, the new bakery, coffee shop, retail and event space by restaurant owner/chef John Fleer, is open today, and it is beautiful. The Rhu is open in the former French Broad Chocolate Lounge space on South Lexington Avenue. The Rhu also happens to be on the backside of, and connected to, Rhubarb, Fleer’s fantastic restaurant on Pack Square that he opened just a couple of years ago.

Check out The Rhu and you’ll find fantastic coffee, baked goods, snacks (all sourced locally) and a beautiful space. It’s amazing.

The Rhu opens at a time when’s Asheville’s seeming obsession with outrageous use of unthinkable ingredients speckling many menus, has shocked many a taste bud….to death. This place brings back the basics with farm fresh bacon, Benton’s I might add (to my knowledge the only place in Asheville making benton’s available for purchase), local salami’s, tomato jams, and tasteful kitchen goods, such as Patch Design Studio’s dishtowels. Nice Touch Rhu. Thanks for giving Asheville’s downtown a spot that preserves the traditions of these hills so eloquently.
