Here’s the great note from loyal reader Daniel, who wants folks to know about his new studio in Asheville’s River Arts District:

And to elaborate on what The Lift is… my wife Michelle and I bought and renovated an old (1907) building on depot st and are operating as a working studio and gallery for my artwork (which you can see at danielmc.com) as well renting for private events. We’ve only been open for a month, but we’ve hit the ground running and have booked a bunch of fun events, including some notable charities.
But the main goal was to create a unique, contemporary space to showcase my work. I had been working in a 180 sq ft studio at the wedge for a couple of years, but I had a major creative-focus change and started producing a new and unique style of work (not to mention bigger) that has been the catalyst for all this. So we’re actively trying to push AVL and specifically the RAD deeper into realm of the professional fine arts, as opposed to crafters and hobbyists. That’s not to say I don’t think that those aren’t important, because I was basically a hobbyist/ transitional artist when I was in the wedge. But we are hoping to help define the RAD as a more multifaceted neighborhood.

So that’s a quick little snippet of what we are. We’re open Tues-Sat 11-6 or by appt sun. You don’t even have to let us know, just pop in!

I look forward to meeting you and hope to see you soon!

Best,

Daniel

Good luck! I love River Arts District. We visited a few weekends ago and will be back many times in 2012. Just a 2 hour drive from Charlotte and we have nothing like River Arts District. We have also lost so many fun galleries and I am glad to see you are thriving!
    Happy New Year.

The Lift sounds interesting and I’ll definitely check it out. However, I totally disagree with his assessment of the RAD being mostly crafters and hobbyists. Has he actually been through other studios?!
