TEDx Asheville, the local version of the inspirational TED talks, is set to return on Oct. 4 at The Collider. Tickets cost $25 and go on sale Friday.

This year’s event will be themed around “community and transformation. It’s all-star lineup includes Asheville Chef William Dissen of The Market Place, who will talk about “changing the world one plate at a time”; singer-songwriter Gary Jules, best known for his cover of the Tears for Fears song Mad World, who will talk about community transformation; Asheville entrepreneur Emily Shaules, founder of Shift Bars, the world’s first organic energy bar with only 1 gram of sugar, who will talk about transforming your life into one you want to live; Asheville cartoonist David Cohen, who will deliver a talk titled “Just Be It”; and several others.

TEDx Asheville started in 2009 as a local version of the popular technology, education and design conference known for its inspirational video talks. The talks in Asheville were organized by a grassroots group of residents, and attendees were turned away at the Orange Peel door. The event began to fade after 20012 – it wasn’t held in ’13 and ’14, then came back last year.

Now it’s back. Here’s more on the theme of TEDx Asheville:

Community and transformation play a very important role in all of our lives – even though we may not always feel it. News headlines and social-media sites focus on the popular and dramatic but are failing to connect us in a real way. There are magnificent things happening all around us through normal people just like us. Our speakers were handpicked for the importance of their stories in the coming transformation of our culture. At TEDxAsheville 2016, we want to make a place to experience community and see how people (not technology) can change everything.
