Apothecary Beverage Company is working on its new, as yet unnamed, distillery and tasting room at 151 Coxe Ave.

-The deadline for the Emerging Designer contest of the 2017 Charleston Fashion Week is fast approaching.

Children First/Communities In Schools has uploaded the 2015-16 WNC Vote Tracker at www.wncvotetracker.org, a site that provides transparency and accountability from Tar Heel legislators, according to a press release. Lead partners of the WNC Vote Tracker include: Children First/ Communities In Schools, Just Economics, Pisgah Legal Services, Western North Carolina Alliance, and Women for Women.

Octopus Garden, meantime, is working on its new location at 186 Coxe Ave.

-Appalachian Mountain Brewery is holding a fun little event Monday, Sept. 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Jack of the Wood. More:

We are taking our We Can So You Can documentary on the road this summer and making an epic journey across the state of North Carolina! The documentary shares the story of Appalachian Mountain Brewery’s core principles of community, sustainability, and philanthropy, while also providing a sneak peek into the people behind our delicious brews. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit North Carolina non-profit Trips for Kids WNC. Come join us at Jack of the Wood on September 19th to meet our head brewers, Nathan and Chris, enjoy our documentary, and of course have a few AMB beers!

Asheville Community Theatre is opening its 71st season with the musical Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim, according to a press release. More:

This dark and macabre musical is a portrait of revenge and psychosis told through a musical score that is nothing short of genius. Asheville Community Theatre’s production of Sweeney Todd is directed by Jerry Crouch with music direction by Lenora Thom. Sweeney Todd opens October 7, 2016 and runs through October 30, 2016 with performances Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Tickets are available online at www.ashevilletheatre.org, over the phone at 828-254-1320, or in person at the Asheville Community Theatre Box Office. This production will be the first time ACT has produced Sweeney Todd. Director Jerry Crouch was thrilled to be asked to direct.

-Comedian James Adomian will perform two shows in downtown Asheville at The Millroom on Friday, Nov. 11. Adomian will appear at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Adomian has a hilariously spot-on impression as Bernie Sanders in his popular live touring performance “Trump vs Bernie” mock debate with comedian Anthony Atamunuik. James is also hailed for his impressions of Jesse Ventura, George W. Bush, and Gary Busey. Tickets here.

-The American Advertising Federation Asheville will hold a kick-off party beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the New Belgium Brewing’s tasting room on Craven Street. “Attendees will receive one complimentary beer, networking opportunities with industry professionals, and a chance to hear about what the new board has “brewing” for the community and its club members,” according to the press release.

-The 6th annual Asheville Juggling Festival is set for Sept. 23-24 at the Stephens-Lee Community Center, located at 30 George Washington Carver in Asheville, according to a press release. The festival is free and open to the public, with a large indoor juggling space, variety shows, workshops, and a place where non-jugglers can learn the basics of juggling. More:

The festival kicks off on Friday September 23 from 6-9pm at the Stephens-Lee Community Center, located at 30 George Washington Carver in Asheville. It continues from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday September 24 at the same location, and will include numerous workshops ranging from beginner to advanced skill levels, covering a variety of props.

One of the highlights of the festival is the Saturday Evening Variety Extravaganza, which will be taking place at the Toy Boat Community Art Space located at 101 Fairview Road in Asheville. This all ages, family friendly show will feature numerous juggling and variety acts, from both local and national talents. This year, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Raíces, a program that promotes a strong sense of identity, respect, and unity among other cultures and its people by teaching the beauty of Mexican and Latin American cultures through dance. The show begins at 7:30pm and the cost is a $10 suggested donation. There will also be a free 80’s dance/juggling party after the show.

On Friday evening, Toy Boat will host a free “Renegade” show at 10:30pm, which is a type of “open stage” for performers to try new material and expand the boundaries of their craft. This show is recommended for audiences 18+. The festival will conclude on Sunday September 25 at the Toy Boat Community Art Space with more free juggling starting at 10am.

The Asheville Juggling Festival is a not-for-profit event put on by the Asheville based juggling troupe, Forty Fingers & A Missing Tooth. Their mission with this festival is to share their passion of juggling and object manipulation, providing a fun environment that people can share and learn new skills.
