ADVENTURE DINING: ABTECH FARMERS MARKET

PIERARCHY – MINDFUL PASTRIES

I took a trip out to the Enka-Candler Tailgate Market with my friend Sam from Mother Ocean Market Asheville last week, and among other delicious things (stay tuned for more posts) I got a very tasty brownie and a really great little shepherds pie from Pierarchy – Mindful Pastries, both were GF. The shepherds pie was particularly satisfying and I would eat it again and again! The crust was really good, light and crispy, and if I didn’t know it was GF, I never would have guessed. The contents were perfect: ground beef, mashed taters, sharp cheese, peas, salt, pepper, yum! Super high recommends!

ABOVE: Pre-re-heated Shepherds Pie.
BELOW: I was instructed to pop it in the oven at 350° for 30 mins, and it came out jehhhhhhst right!

PIZZA DADDY

The main reason for my road trip to the Enka-Candler Tailgate Market with Sam from Mother Ocean Market Asheville was to visit Pizza Daddy, a mobile ? wood fired ?, family operated, pizza oven / cart, to try their hand made, Neapolitan style Pizza, which Sam raves about. He weren’t wrong! It was sooooo dang goooood!!! Sam got himself a roni-mush pie, and bought me my very own pepperoni pizza, and we each devoured half a circle right there in the parking lot. He also got us a dessert pizza that was very tasty as well! It was like apple crisp meets fried dough, except wood-fired not fried. The market is about to close-up for the season in a couple of weeks, so I’m not sure where you’ll be able to find them after that, but you can follow their Facebook page to find out! Super nice people! High recommends for this very cute pizza cart! ?

BETTER THYMES

More super yummy food from nice people at the Enka-Candler Tailgate Market that I went to with my friend Sam from Mother Ocean Market Asheville! The folks from Better Thymes LLC styled me out with two hot sauces, some loose granola, and granola bars. All of it is great! I’ve been eating the loose granola with warm oat milk in the morning and it’s awesome! I’ve also been putting the hot sauces on my avocado toast, and that is also very delicious! Saving the granola bars for when I am hungry and need a little something to get me by, but I tried some of the samples at the market, and they were excellent! So I am excited to tuck into a whole bar! More high recommends, look for their stuff near you and follow them on Facebook if you want know where to find them next.

DJ’S PICKLES

Sam and I stopped by DJ’s Pickles’ booth at the Enka-Candler Tailgate Market, and sampled every pickle they had! Cuke, hot cuke, okra, beats, and apple! I bought some pickle butter, because that’s something I’ve never had before! I still haven’t tried it, so I’ll check back in when I have. In the meantime, I recommend these pickles! They are really good, kinda sweet, and the hot pickles ain’t too hot. ??

CAITLYN FARMS SUSTAINABLY RAISED BEEF

One of my favorite stops at the Enka-Candler Tailgate Market was the Caitlyn Farms Sustainably Raised Beef table. They are super excited about their product, and even more excited about their method of sustainable farming. They sent me home with a beautiful piece of frozen beef, that I will cook later, and if I do a good job of it I will post pictures! ???

EL GALLO ASHEVILLE

I got a pastor taco from El Gallo Asheville, and I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of the actual taco, but instead I shoved it in my face in exactly 4 bites, and 4 seconds. It was fucking GREAT! I only got one taco because I have lunch plans for later today, but I will be back for many more tacos, as well as their entrées! ?

ABEJA’S HOUSE CAFE

BENNE ON EAGLE

Originally posted to Stu Helm: Food Fan Facebook page on 10/20/2021

Sooo… I went on a dinner junket with Katie Dean, one of the candidates running for Congress in the 2022 race to represent the 11th district, (and her campaign strategist) last night. We went to Benne on Eagle, where we split some excellent wings, and I got the Haitian Griot (pork shoulder) served with polenta, beans, something called “pikliz,” which is pickled cabbage, carrots, and peppers. My dinner partners had bucatini with crab, and pepperpot stew with short ribs. We also got dessert, but by then it was too dark to take pictures. Everything was excellent! I CRUSHED my pork shoulder dish. It was super yummy!!! As an extra bonus we all got to meet the new Chef de Cuisine Cleophus Hethington, who came out to say hi. He was very nice, quiet, and humble. He’s new to town, been here 8 weeks, so go give him a good welcome! Anyhoo, Katie is a good eater (as my mom would say), and a good candidate (I think my mom would agree here too!), and it was a pleasure to share a meal with her and her strategist! I haven’t decided who I’ll vote for next November, but I know WNC deserves someone a lot better than the guy we’ve got, and Katie Dean could easily be that person. Check her out on your own. And get on down to Benne. ?

STORM RHUM BAR

? MY ? EPIC ? DELIVERY ? JOURNEY ????
I got a delicious apple beet radicchio salad & super fantastic order of braised brisket and greens delivered from Storm Rhum Bar and Bistro via Kickbackavl this weekend, and I recommend both 100%. That brisket melted like butter in my mouth. This was a meal so good, I immediately texted the chef, and was, like, “Dude.” #truth
