sam_wharton_2014Here are the details of the Oct. 21 benefit at The Isis in West Asheville for Sam Wharton:

This Tuesday we are having a very special Bluegrass Session to benefit Sam Wharton 7:30 :: The Steep Canyon Rangers & The Darren Nicholson Band Every Tuesday evening Isis presents our Tuesday Bluegrass Sessions. The sessions are hosted each week by a local bluegrass musician with friends or a band. This weeks sessions we have a special fundraising program for our friend Sam Wharton and his family. Sam Wharton is a fellow bluegrass musician and singer who is suffering from a life-threatening brain condition. All funds raised will be used to offset his on-going medical expenses and to support his family during this time.

Wharton went to the hospital on Sept. 12 with stroke symptoms. An MRI showed that he had lesions on his brain. He was diagnosed with cavernous angioma, a heritable condition that causes an overgrowth of small, tangled veins in the liver and brain.

Sam Wharton is a bluegrass picker who worked at Greenlife. His family and friends launched a crowdfunding effort to raise $100,000 to help offset his medical bills.

Good for Isis, the Rangers & Darren. I hope they can raise a pile of $. Best I can tell, the folks at Isis have been a real asset to the community (no affiliation).
