Static_Age_Records_2014UPDATE: A couple of readers have reported that this is an April Fool’s joke. Joke’s on me.

ORIGINAL POST April 1: Static Age Records, one of downtown Asheville’s great record stores, has announced that it is closing its shop on Lexington and planning to reopen in West Asheville this fall.

From Static Age on Facebook:

After much deliberation, we have decided to become an online-only shop pending relocation to West Asheville early this fall… you can find us on Ebay and Discogs until the grand re-opening.

More as I get it.

We’ll said Nick! This website seems to be a magnet for people falling over themselves to hate on their neighbors.

Agreed – I don’t see how they will stand a chance against Harvest, which has better prices, customer service, and selection. There are plenty of tattoo shops and restaurants in West Asheville, so if you add another record shop I don’t think Static Age will suffer from over-saturation. I’m sure rent is cheaper, but still, I just don’t see this as a wise move.

Any true record lover would consider this input embarrassing and unnecessary. A record shop should be treated with respect for all its eccentricities; and, they should NOT be compared (especially with each other) or be subject to ignorant, YELP-style reviews from people who don’t know what they are talking about.

Harvest is great, but if you are looking for punk and metal, and used records, Static Age blows it out of the water.
It is also a very active live venue and recording studio. All around different niche than Harvest.
