Wow Nate…
Grams make up ounces and ounces make up pounds…
This place is rented how many times a year?
Say… three….
If $250,000 were invested in say 5 employees making 50K, how much would the state government make in taxes?
7 per cent off the top, 7+ percent of the stuff these people buy,
How much of a percentage of a slice is not a good argument for how I want people to send my money.
I have a grand idea; have Gov. Bev Perdue dig into her pockets and shell out the cash, for renovations. This place is creepy; as it looms over our house in the Valley.
Who is paying for all the new funiture, wall paper, etc going into the residence. A lot of money for wires, stones, and decking. Is anyone overseeing the project locally or is it all being done from Raleigh? The residence was renovated in the 90s, didn't they fix the wiring then?
Well there are one possibly two plusses to this renovation…
1. Raleigh is spending some money in Western North Carolina…usually they forget there is anything west of about Hickory.
2. Maybe they used local trades people to do the work…helping our job market.
the *controversy*, as such, is that these folks don't think of themselves trying to do without when slashing a budget. they believe themselves to be some sort of aristocracy that can do whatever it wants, like scott walker hiring his donor's college dropout son to do a six-fig management position with no experience, or like the detroit motor heads flying to washington in their private jets to ask for a bailout. garbage. i want leaders tightening their own belts, otherwise they are not leaders.
In the interest of a coherent argument: "one one-millionth of one percent" of a $19,902,458,097 budget is $199.03. The $259,300 figure is actually about one-seventh of one percent. Still pretty doggone small, but weak attempts can be made both by those trying to vilify the spending, as well as those trying to make it sound like less of a big deal than it actually is.
As a 17 year old, I got to spend a rather boring and vapid day there. "Youth for Helms". I went mostly out of curiosity, and hey, even at that age I had read The Art of War and new best to know thy enemy.
Wow. What a house. Just from an architectural standpoint, it is stunning, and well worth saving.
The t-shirt from that day put out a battery fire in a Chevy Van, but that's another story. It was a fitting end for a "Youth for Helms" shirt.
How dare they spend money to bring a government property up to code, and make it a more usable facility!?
I find that any time someone uses the phrase "$X of TAXPAYER'S MONEY," you can pretty much assume they have an ax to grind and aren't trying to present a coherent argument. And calling this spending, which represents just over *one one-millionth of one percent* of the NC budget, an "outrage" is a pretty weak attempt to create controversy where none exists.
Maybe she is planning on spending more time in Western North Carolina?
more info – good point.
the article says they rent it out to groups for functions. it would be interesting to know what the dollar amount of the annual revenue from such rentals is and if it's enough to pay for the renovations.
