An innovative Georgia restauranteur/entrepreneur has purchased an old gas station/service station on Asheville’s booming South Slope, according to property records.

Kevin Goldsmith of Augusta, Ga., bought the nearly half-acre site, which includes a 2,000-square-foot building that was once a gas station and service station, for $812,500, the property records show.

Goldsmith is the founder of the popular TakoSushi, which combines two seemingly incompatible foods: sushi and Southwestern food. The 11-year-old restaurant has turned out to be quite popular, and the restauranteur now has five of the Asian-Southwestern-fused eateries open across the Atlanta metro area and in South Carolina, according to The Augusta Chronicle. This 2008 Chronicle profile of Goldsmith offers nice insight into how he operates.

Goldsmith’s latest venture: Bodega Ultima, a cafe/bar in Augusta.

Over the past five years or so, Asheville’s South Slope has been a hotbed of activity, with the opening of new craft breweries, Vortex Doughnuts and Buxton Hall Barbecue restaurant (to name a few) adding to existing stalwart businesses also in the brewing vein, such as Green Man Brewing and Asheville Brewing.

Development continues apace, with several big new development projects focused on the residential side. There are more than 200 new apartment units planned or under construction on the South Slope, as well as a new distillery and a long-term plan for a possible city parking deck.

and don’t forget about the coming huge public housing project expansion that will also enhance the area if the evil housing authority continues it’s mission of segregating the poor democrats.

why does Asheville already have more public housing per capita in city than any other larger city in NC ? biggest bloated blight on the whole city. taxpayers are fed up.

That is the end of the South Slope, where this gas station is, then what? You hit residential neighborhoods and Mission hospital, jumping into Biltmore Village. It will be interesting to see if this growth actually has staying power to last once interest in the area fades.

I know it’s picky, but someone should have spell checked the headline. It’s restaurateur. From a cranky ex-news desk copy editor.
