Second Gear, an outdoor gear consignment shop on Haywood Road in West Asheville, will celebrate it’s 15th anniversary on Saturday with deep discounts on gear, as well as giveaways, free food and beverages for customers and product exhibitions featuring store vendors.

The celebration at 444 Haywood Road will run during regular business hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

At Second Gear, outdoor enthusiasts can find quality used gear such as adventure gear, clothing, footwear, and accessories without paying full retail prices. For consignors, Second Gear offers great rates for lightly-used kayaks, canoes, bicycles, outdoor clothing, hiking boots, and camping equipment.

“Second Gear’s founding mission was community-focused and centered around a consignment-based business model that relied on the community to populate the store with their gear and clothing,”  Russ Towers, Second Gear’s founding partner, said in a news release.

“We introduced the original store in the spring of 2004 through an open house and sidewalk cook-out, and the product has been coming in continuously ever since. Most of the $3,000,000 paid out to over 9,000 consignors over 15 years are dollars being ‘recycled’ throughout the Asheville area economy.”

Second Gear has new items, also. They include guidebooks, maps, disc golf equipment, climbing gear and an array of dealer samples priced below suggested retail.

Congratulations to Russ, Eric and the entire crew!
