Reports: NY Times close to selling regional newspapers, including Hendersonville and Spartanburg papers

The New York Times Co. “is close to selling” the 16 newspapers in its Regional Media Group, located in Alabama, California, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina, to Halifax Media Group. Halifax purchased the Daytona Beach News-Journal in 2010.

I’m not sure what effect an ownership change would have on the Hendersonville Times-News, but it usually comes with new people and some content changes. As an aside, former Asheville Citizen-Times editor, Robyn Tomlin, is now the editor of the Wilmington, N.C. Star-News, which is another newspaper that’s part of the NY Times regional group.

    Most of the Hendo content is laid out, edited and printed in Spartanburg now already …
