jude_law_2014The release date for the Hollywood bio-pic Genius about the relationship between Asheville native son and famous author Thomas Wolfe and his editor, Max Perkins, has been moved.

The movie had been scheduled for a Christmas release this year, and actor Jude Law, who plays Wolfe, was already getting mentioned as a likely Oscar nominee. The film stars Colin Firth as Perkins, as well as Nicole Kidman and Guy Pearce.

In an October story, the Mirror newspaper reported that Firth and Law were filming in Manchester. It also noted that Law had just announced he was expecting his fifth child, this time with a23-year-old singer Cat Cavelli.

The movie was not filmed in Asheville, but Law visited our mountain town last summer to learn more about Wolfe. Law checked out some of Wolfe’s writings at Pack Memorial Library, visited Wolfe’s gravesite in Riverside Cemetery and ate at a couple of downtown restaurants with old ties to the Wolfe family.

This is the second big Hollywood film with Asheville connections that’s been put off until next year. Masterminds, a comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudekis and Owen Wilson that was filmed around Asheville and Western North Carolina last year, had initially been set for release this year. It was recently announced that Masterminds would be released in September 2016.
