Reviews are coming in on UrbanSpoon, and it looks like the burger joint at 620 Hendersonville Road is open as of Monday night. Juicy Lucy’s is the former Province 620, given a new name and a major overhaul.

From Mountain Xpress:

The 200-seat eatery will be updated with a 20-tap bar featuring many local brews. The restaurant will be “affordable, easy and not pretentious,” says Chris Barlas, one of the owners, along with his two brothers, all born and raised locally.

The restaurant’s namesake is a type of burger stuffed with cheese that originated in Minnesota in the early ’50s. “The whole concept’s been fun to work with,” says Barlas. Juicy Lucy’s menu will feature “modern, updated classics,” with 10-12 specialty burgers made with hormone-free beef, veggie patties, grilled chicken or pulled pork, all on house-baked breads.

Barlas also said the restaurant will have a milkshake menu with flavors including sea salt caramel, blueberry graham cracker, Guinness stout and liquor shakes.

Website and menu coming soon. Juicy Lucy’s is hiring.

I ate there last night — awful. I’m going to assume that it was because they still have several wrinkles to iron out, and I’ll try them again in a few weeks. If they’re still bad then I’ll try one more time a few weeks after that, and if there is *still* no improvement, they’re off my list of places to eat at.

I had the black and blue burger, which had no flavor, and onion rings, which were way too greasy. The waitstaff seemed overwhelmed, and I saw one waiter wandering around all over the restaurant with plates of food trying to figure out who they went to. I also saw several plates heading back to the kitchen to be redone or changed out.

I miss Province 620, honestly, but considering that this new venture is owned by the same people, I very sincerely hope they can get it together and offer a product as good as what they used to at Province.

The only place in town serving Hickory Nut Gap beef is Roman’s on Haywood downtown as far as I know. They are the best burgers I have tasted in Buncombe County and worth every penny… Only burgers I will eat outside my house because they are local pasture raised. I like the real deal. I hope others jump on the band wagon soon… Anyone know of others please reply?

There are many places in town where you can get beef from Hickory Nut Gap , as well as other local farms. Go to the ASAP website and you wil find alot of information there. Also, judging by their pricepoint, they are probably using institutional grade beef.

Also, while out and about this AM I ran into someone that works at Juicy Lucy’s. I asked about where their veges and meat comes from. The person seemed to think that it all comes from local farms but said he is not a cook. Any truth to that, anyone know? Sure would like to get a Hickory Nut Gap burger somewhere else besides my house…. Wouldn’t that be great for business…

Ned, I’m not sure – I think some meat and vegetables are sourced locally, but not all. I talked with one of the owners Monday morning, and he was swamped and unclear. I didn’t have time to press for details. Will when his biz settles down.
