Hendo pastor’s son Bret Mathis is a local baseball star, Clemson grad, and a pharmacist at the Ingles on Howard Gap Road.

He’s also the star of a new Bachelor-style TV pilot in which down-home types seek love with an international bevy of women flown in for the show.

From Blue Ridge Now:

The concept of the pilot, which could air on FOX in the spring if it’s picked up as a series, is a home-grown variation on the popular series The Bachelor: 10 bachelorettes from various cities come to rural Hendersonville in search of a single man with the character and morals to match his good looks.

“I really would love to find a woman who’s willing to settle down in a nice small town,” Mathis said as five or more cameras rolled along the 400 block of Main Street. “My last serious girlfriend, which was in pharmacy school in a big city, after we graduated, unfortunately, she wasn’t willing to come back to my hometown and she absolutely broke my heart.”

The film crew from Lock and Key Productions, based in North Hollywood, Calif., will be shooting various scenes across Henderson County until next Saturday, said spokeswoman Michelle Llorens. The 10 bachelorettes will be staying at a bed-and-breakfast somewhere in Henderson County and embarking each day on various activities with Mathis.
