Opening Spring 2014, Public School is a neighborhood bar located in the South Slope of Downtown Asheville. Patio and indoor seating, daily drink specials, and signature cocktails. Bring your dogs, we love them! Stay tuned for updates and watch our progress on Facebook.

The location is the old Standard Paper building, which is being divided up. Vortex Doughnuts is also going into the building. Twin Leaf Brewing just opened at the corner of Banks Avenue and Coxe Avenue. And there’s major new developments planned in the same area.

I wonder if the Zona lofts or something else like it will get revived. It’s be great if the Sourh Slope boom includes a couple decent apartment buildings so people live there too and make it a more complete neighborhood.

There’ve been several articles on this website regarding this.

I believe “Public School” was the name of the bar owned by Timothy Oliphant’s character in “The Office”, season 7.

So the worst thing I can say about the name is that it is un-original.

yayy! It will be nice to have another bar, bar in that area. I love beer just as much as the next person but sometimes you need some liquor! The prospect gets a little competition.

That’s a really bad name for a bar.

I’m no prude, but seriously. That’s awful.

Seriously! Who the hell came up with that idea? I suppose it will be full of kids in the afternoon and evenings, while their parents zone out with a drink and stare at their iphones.

I’m still upset that “Nuns on Top” got changed because people were offended.
