New in West Asheville off of Haywood is Asheville Fungi, an indie specialty shop retailing mushroom growing supplies including grow bags to take home and start sprouting your own.

Look for it on the right side of Haywood heading east, just after Blue Ridge Printing and before Delores and Jose’s. It’s at 16 Allen Street, a little side street.

You can’t miss the fun exterior murals depicting mushrooms.

Santa brought me a grow bag of King Oysters, currently sprouting up nicely on my dining room table. Varieties available at the shop include enoki, lion’s mane, shiitake and several other varieties of oyster mushrooms.
