      Pretty tasty. Also, you get a “free” doughnut with a half-baker’s dozen. So, 7 for $12, if you are super hungry.

      Doughnut and cuppa joe for around $4 sounds about right for high quality. Beats $5.50 for your Bojangle’s meal.

   Some opening. Went to check them out and a surly old man barks that they ran out. As a restauranteur, not a smart start. Maybe Vortex will have enough for their first day.

      It’s typical operation for a doughnut shop to sell out and then close the doors when they do. That could be 11am or it could be 4pm. It would take a while (weeks) for a new shop to gauge demand and make the right number of doughnuts to fill customer needs and not have a lot of waste.

      Because doughnuts made without preservatives, binders, and fillers have a shelf-life measured in hours, if some are still available after lunch most shops will advertise on social-media a 2-for-1 special. If you show up at 1pm you might walk away empty handed or you might get a great deal.

      As for the “surly old man” barking at you, I can’t comment on that.

      I don’t believe that any surly old men are involved with this operation. I only encountered super friendly women, some with very nice accents.

         The older man was in the parking lot. The fact that he said “We are out. Today was a soft opening” may lead one to infer that he had something to do with the operation.
         I did go back the other day and the ladies working were nice.

      Actually, it’s very common for restaurants to have growing pains when they first start. They were well-stocked, well-attended, and quite friendly when I went in today.

      Good doughnuts, tasty coffee. I drive by them everyday on my way to and fro. Will be dangerous!

         Unfortunately, you are right. Growing pains (production and staffing issues) are two of the biggest reasons that cause 50% of all restaurants to close their doors within the first 2 years.
         I wish them luck.
