Our Voice is recruiting for volunteers in these areas, says loyal reader Shilpa. Consider helping if you can:

Prevention Education Outreach Volunteers: The Prevention Education and Outreach (PEO) program seeks to empower young people in developing school and social cultures of safety and respect. As a PEO volunteer, you will help teens recognize the impact of sexual violence and identify harmful attitudes and beliefs that contribute to cultures of violence. You will guide them in developing skills to improve communication, recognize risky situations, and intervene to stop violence. You will also have the opportunity to present in other settings, such as shelters, treatment centers, assisted living facilities, faith-based institutions and after-school groups. As part of your role in the PEO program, you will also reach out to new groups to offer them a brief information session about Our VOICE services and programs. The Fall 2012 Training will be held from September 11th through October 4th for 8 sessions, meeting Tuesday/Thursday evenings.

Crisis Advocate Volunteers: Volunteers answer the 24/7 crisis line (on evenings and weekends) providing immediate emotional and informational support and accompany individuals affected by rape and sexual assault in the Mission Hospital Emergency Room. A 30-hour training is required and volunteers must be at least 20 years old with a cell phone and reliable transportation. Fall 2012 Training will be held September 22nd through October 15th for 11 sessions, meeting Monday/Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
