Venture Asheville is the Asheville Buncombe Economic Development Coalition’s new effort to support Asheville entrepreneurs and attract entrepreneurs from other areas.

Registration is open now for a free event that’s the first in a new series of Venture Asheville networking events with a guest speaker.

From the event’s registration page:

Join us to kick-off Venture Asheville Networking!  We are thrilled to launch our networking series with this very special event exploring social entrepreneurship and impact investing on Monday, September 10th, 4-6pm at Asheville’s Historic Masonic Temple Theater.

Our first event is special to us and one we hope will be special to you too.  We are pleased to bring 2012 Unreasonable Fellow, Michael Wilkerson to Asheville to share the incredible story behind his social venture, Own Your Own Boda as well as his time at the Unreasonable Institute, a social entrepreneurship accelerator in Boulder, CO.  Additionally, we are excited to welcome the NC Investors Circle to Asheville and Justin Desrosier will join the stage to share insight into “the why” behind impact investing.

We will also learn more about whats going on locally from some of our Asheville based entrepeneur ventures including ways you can make an impact.

We promise this afternoon will have impact, provide meaning, be insightful, social and a bit “Unreasonable”.

The energy starts at 4pm and pauses at 6pm at the Asheville Masonic Temple Theater – this event is free and open to the public.

An after-event networking reception will be held at the new Aloft Hotel Ledge with a cash bar and complimentary appetizers.

Space is limited, so RSVP early.

Learn more about guest speaker Michael Wilkerson here. His company helps motorcycle taxi (“boda boda”) drivers in Uganda own their own bikes to accelerate out of poverty.
