creative_collective_asheville_2014This looks cool. From loyal reader Hank:

Creative Collective Asheville (CCA) will host an Open Forum on February 19, from 7 to 9 pm, for professionals and freelancers in all creative fields. CCA is an emerging group with the goal of making Asheville a place where creative professionals and freelancers don’t just reside, but thrive.

“Creative Collective Asheville is a community that promotes, supports, and connects with the needs of creative professionals and freelancers,” says Kiere Shaffer, one of the group’s organizers. “We believe our work is unique, important, and valuable work that requires skill and expertise. We help creatives get paid a fair market value and offer world-class service to their clients. We also educate clients and the local business community about the value of quality creative work.”

The purpose of the Open Forum is to reach out to professional creatives in the community. “Come prepared to have fun, learn, and see how we can help each other,” Kiere says. The Forum will be interactive, with paired interviewing, brainstorming on how to thrive in Asheville, presentation of solutions, and a question and answer period.

As CCA membership grows, so will the group’s community outreach. “We collaborate on projects, organize community events, and work under an abundant mindset of synergy, collaboration, and connectedness,” Kiere says.

The Open Forum takes place on Feb 19th from 7 to 9 pm, at 36 Montford Avenue in the Lenoir Rhyne University Board Room. Refreshments will be provided. Contact: Kiere at [email protected] or join the CCA Meetup group and RSVP here.

Seriously, how many meetings can the creatives create? For instance, the Avl Area Arts Council has endless “Creative Sector” meetings each year, and guess what – they have the exact same motive as y’all have just described. There’s so much duplication of efforts in this town, why don’t you just connect?

Is this being live video streamed to the web? Or maybe video captured and shared later?

It is a possibility, I will bring it up at our core group meeting to see what we can work out. If at the very least we should be able to record it to post later.

Didn’t the late Bob Kelso start a similar group some time ago? Is it still in operation?

I am pretty sure the group you are referring to is no longer around.
