From Mountain Xpress’ Mackensy Lunsford:

After 12 years in the same Patton Avenue location, Loretta’s Café is moving to the Meadows Building. The three-story structure, located at 109 Broadway St., houses the space that Eric Backer’s restaurant (which was called Scratch, then Nova) vacated last year. The Meadows Building’s front windows have been covered in brown paper for the past few months, and there has been a bit of speculation as to what’s going on inside.
Apparently, Loretta Wooley, the owner of the café and its namesake, has been re-figuring the bar into a sandwich counter and setting up shop in the downstairs kitchen. She’s also been preparing a third level to be used as an event space — as well as a ping pong table room.

It is amazing that a block or two might as well be five miles…

Knowing the building's cost, this is a HUGE step for anybody, one that would requires a lot of thought and number crunching. Once again, good luck and can't wait to say "hello neighbor."

It's three blocks, not another zip code.

I love Loretta's, but this is a bad move. You can forget all the office professionals walking all the way down there for lunch. Maybe they are going to offer delivery? I don't work downtown, but would call in an order. You could always park in front of the store, run in, and run out. I'm afraid they will be seeing me much less. 🙁 Best chicken salad sandwich in town.

Nice! This is two doors down from our Lexington Ave. store… we need a sandwich shop!

Looking forward to seeing the new space, hoping the change is a good one. Sure did love to sit by the sunny window with the herbs.

    Good for Loretta!

I just wonder if the new location will receive as much traffic …. it is sort of off the beaten path that the current spot is on … lots of lawyers, bankers, etc. up in downtown "proper"

Hoooray!!! Loretta's makes the Best Egg Salad Sandwich Ever, yet I hardly ever go because of the parking debacle in its current space. This is a fabulous move.
