Wunder has been with the station for 11 years. Her contract ends in July 2014, and she’s moving on.

From a message on the WLOS website today:

After 11 years with WLOS, Meteorologist Julie Wunder announced she has made the difficult decision to pursue other interests when her contract ends in July. Julie said her health has suffered since she started working the morning and noon shift 7 years ago. She says she is looking forward to a more healthy future here in Asheville, once she is able to start sleeping through the night. “I am incredibly grateful to the WLOS team for the opportunities they have given me over the past 11 years…  They brought me to Asheville, and for that I am forever grateful.  I know I would not be where I am today without them,” she said in her announcement.

Complete message from WLOS here.

Here’s what Wunder posted yesterday on her blog, writing about her decision not to renew her WLOS contract:

This has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but I keep coming to the same conclusion: I need to make a change.  My health has suffered since I started the morning and noon show show 7 years ago and as the hours I work continue to expand I’ve struggled to keep up with the schedule.  I decided that waking up at 2:00 AM is not a healthy way for me to live at this point in my life.  Some people do it for decades and can handle it, but my body is telling me I need to take a break.  Please don’t worry about me though, I don’t have any ailments that my doctors don’t expect to go away once I start actually sleeping at night again!

Best of luck to Julie in her pursuit of new opportunities.

My wife and I have always counted on Julie for our forecast. Her straightforward delivery and the clear way she has of presenting the facts make her the best in the business. She will be sorely missed at our house.

Best wishes Julie, May God bless you in your new endeavors.

I’m sad to that you are leaving your morning weather program at WLOS. You have done so much good for the Asheville area. Especially for the critters. You will be missed. Best regards, and Go Gators.

Since my recent move from Florida to WLOS viewing area, Julie has been my favorite weather personality. I was immediately impressed with her class and awesome manner of dress. I even searched online to see if there was a national award for best dressed meteorologist so I could nominate her, but didn’t find anything. So many forecasters nationwide these days have gone overboard with tight, short, low-cut outfits, and attention-seeking behaviors. Praying for much success for Julie in her new adventures, and a blessed and healthy future.

Julie, You were the only one I cared to listen to early in the morning. You are a very sweet lady and you acted like a lady always. Now I will have no reason to turn on CH.13 in the mornings. 🙁 Except when school starts back and it will be with the sound turned down. I still enjoy the evening broadcast and the people there. Wishing you the very best of luck and thanks for all the hard work you did.

I’m just glad you’re finally leaving. For 11 years I’ve had to put up with your moronic faces, immature personality, and total lack of professional delivery. High school students could speak with more eloquence than you. Good riddance!

Who is this lunatic that speaks as if they have even a shred of the talent, courage, and intellect of Julie Wunder? Let’s see…Julie Wunder graduated from The University of Florida! Was handpick ahead of many other males to be the replacement for the beloved weather anchor and local legend Bob Caldwell! She is the winner of an Emmy for her reporting! She has some the hottest legs in the news business and she is without a doubt one the prettiest news/weather women to have ever worked in these United States! I don’t know what your problem is but you really need to let whatever butt hurt feelings you have for her cease to exist. I don’t care if you are a former lover, a former colleague, or just some idiot at home miserably treating a woman that has dedicated her career to putting on a smile when I know there has been times that she just wanted to get into a fiddle position and cry herself to sleep! If you are a dude I would challenge you to arm wrestling contest and beat you like a boss! And if you are a woman I would give you a proper spanking and depending on how attractive you are I would make it up to you by buying you tons of chocolate, shoes and warm hugs! To all of those people who give a darn about Julie Wunder stand up and let the world know who you are and let her know that her life is special now and it will always be special and have merit!

I agree, she always reminded me of a first year broadcasting student trying to find a style but really couldn’t. I’m sure she is a nice person but her on air presence was bad. Ingrid Allstaedt is much better. Small market, low bar.
