Asheville Fashion Week, which will be held at various downtown venues from Aug. 3-6, will feature Olympic runner Manteo Mitchell, who lives in Asheville. Check it out:

Perseverence aptly describes Manteo Mitchell, who at the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London ran the first leg of the 4X400 relay leg, only to discover he had broken his fibula—yet nevertheless finished, and earned a silver medal.

While still in full training mode, Mitchell will be switching gears in August and pursuing his other interest, fashion, and modeling in Asheville Fashion Week.

Taking place August 3-6 and hosted by Gage Models & Talent Agency, Asheville Fashion Week provides a relevant outlet for Asheville’s thriving fashion community. This is the second year for Asheville Fashion Week which is back after a successful inaugural year in 2015.

Manteo Mitchell, an Asheville local, has substantial track related accolades. In addition to earning the Olympic silver medal, he is a U.S. and world champion with a gold medal from the IAAF World Indoor Championships. When he’s not training, he inspires others as a motivational speaker, and is also a fashion model.

“I have always been big on fashion and trend-setting. I modeled as a kid in small shows, and that passion has always stuck with me,” said Mitchell. Like his motivational speaking, he looks to provide inspiration to athletes. “I wanted to model in Asheville Fashion Week to show that athletes can do it too.”

Asheville Fashion Week will incorporate over 100 models and over a dozen designers who are hard at work putting the finishing touches on their designs as the event quickly approaches. The event furnishes the designers with a platform to showcase their collections, offering publicity, advertising, networking and professional photos of their work. For models, it’s not only valuable industry experience, but also enables them to build relationships and fun, lasting memories.

“I am delighted and honored to part of Asheville Fashion Week as a model. I am most looking forward to learning and meeting new folks along the journey. This is a different avenue for me and I am excited and ready to embrace the opportunity,” said Mitchell.

He also appreciates those who made his upcoming runway moment possible. “Thanks to Gage Models and Talent Agency for making this possible. I can’t wait to throw on some new threads from the amazing designers—and hopefully make it all look good in the process,” said Mitchell.

The future is bright for Manteo Mitchell, both on the track and on the runway.
