listen_to_this_chalmers_2014Here’s a fun event coming up Thursday at The Orange Peel. Loyal reader Liz tells me that the fully seated show is “basically a live, Asheville version of the Moth Radio Hour – really interesting, entertaining true stories this time about holiday travel travails.”

Here’s the press release:

Listen to This: Stories in Performance, Asheville’s celebrated storytelling series returns to The Orange Peel this month for a special holiday installment, “Over the Railing and Through the Woods” – an evening of holiday travel travails.

After a three-year run in Los Angeles, Listen to This is now in its fifth year in Asheville of presenting personal stories and songs all built around a central theme. The show is produced and hosted by Tom Chalmers, named one of Asheville’s Best Local Comedians the last three years in the Mountain Xpress Reader’s Poll. Chalmers compares the show to NPR”s This American Life but with a lot more beer and a lot less wind in the mic. The idea is simple, stories so good they should be shared with a crowd.

For his Christmastime Listen to This, Tom has put together an evening of stories and songs about the troubles we often go through to get home for the holidays. The lineup features a variety of Asheville personalities and performers: Ben Atkins (host of ashevillefm’s Your Only Option), Maryedith Burrell (Emmy-nominated writer), Danny Ellis (acclaimed Irish singer/songwriter/storyteller), Carol Motsinger (Asheville Citizen-Times Music & Entertainment Reporter), and Jessica Tomasin (Echo Mountain Studios) & Waylon Wood (local playwright & performer). Plus music and merriment from The Leigh Glass Trio.

Take a plane, train, or automobile but get to this show however you can and share in the time-honored holiday tradition of telling friends and family how difficult it is to travel at this time of year. Thursday, December 18th at The Orange Peel. Doors at at 7PM, show at 8PM. Tickets are only $10.  (I let you list how you would want them to buy tickets.)

How do I get in touch with Tom Chalmers about possibly performing in a future show? Do you have a contact phone number or email, or can you send him my info? Many thanks!

Emberley, it looks like he’s on LinkedIn here:

He also has a close connection with NYS3 in Woodfin, and you could probably reach him through those folks.
