I think it should be reserved for smoking babies.
Smokers are the greatest source of litter in downtown and elsewhere. Keep ’em out of parks…any parks.
I agree with Phan. The world is the smoker’s ashtray. God forbid y’all put the butt in your pocket. Your breath stink, your clothes stink and all while giving your dumbass cancer or any other fatal disease. I’d rather listen to the baby cry, which seems ironically fitting.
I’m still not convinced that the parklet isn’t just a silly idea, but it’s been given the official thumbs up as a temporary “park” by the city, and that should mean that city park rules apply. Those rules include a prohibition on smoking.
besides, we all know the homeless are just going to pee on them anyway.
I’m with this forrest guy. Keep your crying babies out of my personal space. Whats to stop these public spaces from being hogged up by mega-strollers?
What is going to prevent these “parklets” from becoming and outdoor seating/smoking area for Izzy’s customers? Every time I walk by the coffee shop there are 4-5 people out there puffing away. Aren’t they just going to take a seat at the parklet?
Yes,we should prevent people from smoking,drinking coffee, and hanging out! That makes sense Kate! Let’s have this space be only for people who fit your culture mold. How bout crying babies, burning sage sticks, and feral kittens.
Clearly wanting the parklet to not become a smokers depot is me trying to push my values on others… OR, maybe it would be nice for people of all walks of life to be able to enjoy a public space without having to be exposed to second hand smoke. I have a baby (that cries sometimes), drink coffee and hang out. To imply that I would want to prevent people from hanging out just b/c I doesn’t want to sit in the middle of a group of smokers is ridiculous.
Then sit there when people aren’t smoking…go with all your friends and let your babies cry and wail and the smokers will most likely not join you. If we have to listen to your baby cry then you have to suffer others’ annoyances too. I don’t smoke nor have a baby but I put up with both because this is life, this a city, and I don’t expect other people to conform to my decisions. If you don’t like it there are nice suburbs for you to sit in…
