Mad Tea Party

Hi folks. As promised, I’m kicking off a new podcast feature that I hope to make a weekly, or at least every-two-weeks, feature on the blog.

The goal is to feature a wide variety of what makes Ashvegas great. I’m planning interviews with featured guests, some man-on-the-street action, and a taste of our amazing local musical talent. Pretty much anything goes, and I want your suggestions. What would make for a fun Ashvegas podcast?

First up, you’ll hear some beer news from local writer/beer lover Anne Fitten Glenn, who writes semi-weekly Brews News at Mountain Xpress. And you’ll hear an interview with, and tunes from, Jason Krekel and Ami Worthen of the Mad Tea Party, an awesome ukulele-powered rockabilly duo. You can download their fun holiday tune, Oh Sh*t, It’s Christmastime, from their web site. (Check out their new video of the tune here.) They’ve had a great 2009 and are looking ahead to making lots more music in 2010.

Krekel’s got a big Christmas Day show coming up with one of his side projects, the Krektones. Here’s the info:

Christmas night (Friday Dec. 25) will see the debut of a new instrumental combo to Asheville’s Broadways (which I am told is a prestigious hall of music and drink). The Krektones play instrumental rock n roll of and inspired by Link Ray, Ventures and Herb Alpert. Consisting of members of the Kurmudgeons and the ill-fated Diaboliques (still wrapped up in French court) the Krektones (consisting of Gay Wille Krekel and h. Westmoreland) seeks to bring together all of the fine musicianship from both afformentioned combos into one kickass, burnin, sweat-inducing extravaganza! A perfect end to a day of awkward family get-togethers and seasonal bliss.

This podcast is recorded, edited and mixed by Stu Zonder of Zonder Productions. If you need his help when it comes to audio production, let me know and I’ll get you in touch with him. He’s just kicking off his business. He and his wife are also local musicians whom you may have seen around. More on that soon.

One last note: I’m looking for a sponsor or sponsors for the podcast. Interested? Leave a note in the comments or email [email protected].

Enjoy.

It’s not a podcast until you have an rss feed for the podcast.
