Who’s number one in Pabst Blue Ribbon consumption per capita? Our unofficial sister city, Portland.

Asheville is second in the nation, while Richmond, Va. is number three.

Great related open thread here from the Bar of Soap laundromat and hangout: What’s the local answer to PBR? For the Bar of Soap, it’s Rocket Girl, an easy-drinking, affordable canned beer from Asheville Brewing:

After having a conversation about this article on Twitter (you are following us, right? @_BarOfSoap), I thought I’d bring the discussion over to FB.

Looking for a local equivalent of PBR? We recommend Asheville Brewing‘s Rocket Girl. It’s an easy drinking lager made from better ingredients than PBR, comes in cans, is relatively inexpensive, and the money stays in your community!

Now, don’t get us wrong, we carry PBR and have been known to drink 1 or 3. But if you don’t mind spending an extra $1 per beer for something very similar that’s made locally from better ingredients, Rocket Girl is a great choice.

So what say you? Have you tried Rocket Girl? Is it your go-to replacement for PBR?
