D to Asheville City Council for the letter urging citizens to boycott the topless rally scheduled for Sunday, but little else in the way of action to stop the event. Council members rightly deplore the event and urge residents to go to the Goombay festival or find better ways to enjoy the downtown this weekend. “We wish it were not happening,” the members said in their letter. Wishful thinking, indeed.

But the council keeps saying its hands are tied to actually outlaw going topless, according to legal research by City Attorney Bob Oast. Never mind that communities as close as Waynesville as well as Raleigh and Wilmington have laws on the books that would ban such rallies featuring nudity or exposed breasts.

Independent, conservative news site WorldNetDaily gives Sunday’s event an exciting new name: Bible-belt nude-fest plans charging forward

Officials in Asheville, N.C., are allowing plans for a nude-fest to go forward in the Bible belt city this weekend, even though local residents have been fighting the event’s activities as a violation of state law.

Last year, WND reported on how the organization Go Topless conducted a public rally in Asheville that featured topless women engaged in sexually suggestive positions in the presence of children. Despite such public displays being prohibited by state statute, authorities did nothing to prevent the displays.

The pro-nudity organization, sponsored by an off-shoot religious group founded by a man, has announced that it intends to repeat the events of last year in the city on Aug. 26.

      Ya think? They’re a laughing stock. Smith and Bothwell should go to the topless rally on Sunday. They’ll be the biggest boobs there.
