Fourth annual Asheville International Children’s Film Festival continues

This year’s Asheville International Children’s Film Festival, held November 2-11, 2012 includes an opening night rollicking pajama jam with “Neo – Acoustic Folk/Funk” performer Jacob Johnson and many other cinematic delights for the whole family. Children can also participate in the festival jury.

T-Bone Productions is pleased to announce the 4th annual Asheville International Children’s Film Festival to be held November 2 through November 11 at various venues throughout the city. The largest children’s film festival in the Southeast, Asheville International Children’s Film festival, celebrates the best and brightest in international children’s cinema with a 10-day extravaganza of more than 70 films from over 20 countries. This year’s edition includes a mind-blowing blend of programs that include live performances, animation, features, shorts, historical films and fantastic hands-on workshops for the filmmakers of tomorrow.

This year’s festival will begin on Friday, Nov. 2 with a Neo folk funk pajama party for ages 3 and older, featuring a sneak preview of animated films from the festival, and a concert by Jacob Johnson, a highlight of the AVL Father’s Fest, Jacob Johnson has shared the stage with Edwin McCain, Tim Reynolds, David Wilcox and scores of others. Jacob Johnson has won raves for playing catchy tunes that make both kids and grownups want to boogie, so audiences members are urged to bring their favorite stuffed animals and be ready to get up and dance in the aisles.

Hungry? You won’t want to miss the festival’s annual Pancake Breakfast, where families enjoy a tasty meal together before watching a special package of short films on the first Saturday morning of the festival, November 3, hosted by Earth Fare, Westgate location.

Other Festival highlights will include after school screenings and “Dinner and a Movie at the cozy Posana Cafe in downtown Asheville. This year we are welcoming AB Tech as a presenting screening host venue for an all day Saturday, November 10th screening. The final award ceremony and screenings for the “best of” will be held at the Lab on Lexingrton Avenue, November 11.

There are 8 short film programs in this year’s festival, stuffed with award-winning live action and animated short films that have won top prizes on the international children’s film festival circuit.

Elizabeth Shepherd, Festival Curator, says this year’s festival will provide families with a chance to go on a whirlwind trip around the world.

Kids will also be important decision makers on the Festival’s Children’s Jury. Ten children aged 8-12 will be chosen to see a selection of films and award prizes in several categories. The Jury will convene during the festival, and announce its awards at the Festival’s closing ceremonies, February 5 at 5 pm. Admission to most festival programs is only $5 for kids and adults. Tickets to all events may be purchased in advance at the AICFF website. Many screenings sell out— parents and caregivers are encouraged to avoid disappointment, tears and tantrums, and get their get their tickets in advance.

    Films from “almost two countries” will be shown, really means that films from the US will be shown? Hardly “international”
