Asheville’s edition of The Moth storytelling series will hold its first Asheville GrandSLAM Championship on Oct. 30 at Diana Wortham Theatre.

Tickets go on sale this afternoon.

Asheville StorySLAM started in September 2015 at The Mothlight in West Asheville. Asheville is one of the smallest cities in the U.S. to have its own Moth StorySLAM, and it’s been a massive hit.

In each monthly event, storytellers have five minutes to spin a yarn on a topic that’s announced ahead of time. These monthly winners will now compete in the championship event.

The storyteller to beat is Raymond Christian, who has won several of the Asheville events. Christian is a retired paratrooper who lives in Boone and produces his own popular podcast, What’s Ray Saying, which features stories born out of his own life experiences.
