It’s the last few days to donate: The MANNA Foodbank campaign we highlighted on Ashvegas last month ends on Monday.
Can we get a last push to help fight hunger in WNC?
From now until Christmas Eve, just like the Facebook page for MANNA Foodbank, a local charity that works to end hunger in WNC, and anonymous donor will give the charity one dollar.
It doesn’t sound like much until you realize the promotion has made MANNA over $3000 so far–about 9000 meals for hungry people. Not bad for just one click.

Turn Clicks into Meals with MANNA’s Facebook Campaign
Asheville, NC, December 13, 2012
MANNA FoodBank has generous donors who are willing to put their money where your click is. For every new “like” MANNA receives for their Facebook page – not just a posting, but the page – an anonymous donor will match the like with a dollar. One dollar for MANNA means three meals can be distributed. The grant will match the new likes acquired up to $5,000. The donor challenge lasts until Christmas Eve.
Liking a page on Facebook is an easy way to support a favorite cause. It helps expand that organization’s reach, which in effect lessens the amount of money needed to get its messages out. MANNA has teamed up with some media savvy donors to broaden their support in social media communities. MANNA hopes that broadening their audience will get more people involved in their organization through volunteerism and raising awareness about food insecurity in WNC.
One in six people in Western North Carolina struggles to find enough food – that’s 106,600 people seeking assistance from a MANNA partner agency in one year and 10.5 million pounds of food distributed. If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, you can dial 211 to find your nearest partner agency. You can also find out if you are eligible for SNAP (formerly know as food stamps) by visiting www.epass.nc.gov or calling Jason Turnbull at MANNA at (828) 458-2568.
