Update: Trump’s visit has been confirmed. The presidential candidate’s event at the U.S. Cellular Center on Monday will start with doors open at 3 p.m. and the event at 6 p.m. Free tickets here.

Meantime, protesters are also planning to rally across the street from the center.

Original post, 12:04 p.m. Thursday: Word on the street is that presidential candidate Donald Trump will rally in Asheville on Monday. There is also word that protesters are planning a big event the same day across from the US Cellular Center.

This is all rumor right now. I don’t have confirmation of any time, date or location. But we all know that North Carolina is a battleground state in the Election 2016 presidential race. Trump has already been campaigning around the state, with stops in Wilmington, Fayetteville and most recently in Greenville. The Republican is looking to drum up support in all corners of the state.

A couple of weeks ago, Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine campaigned in Asheville. He delivered a stump speech, then got a ton of coverage for hitting up the city’s South Slope for some food (Buxton Hall barbecue) and drink (Catawba Brewing). He also whipped out his harmonica and jumped in to play a few tunes with singer/songwriter Nikki Talley, while Kaine’s wife clogged.

More developments as I get them.

Just checked out the Trump rally photos over on the Asheville Citizen Times site. As Mr. Trump so eloquently stated; “I love the poorly educated”. I guess he does … they are the base of today’s GOP.

Donald J. Trump, finding the silver lining on September 11th, 2001:

Will be packed…sold out already…I’m playing the Trump card. No more dumbo crats for me. Hillary is so sick she cant even attend and event without leaving early. 8 years of mental illness is enough for me.

If 8 years of mental illness is enough, will you finally be committing yourself to a mental institution for good?

I’ll be there to support the Don. Just wondering if I’ll have to brave bodily assault from militant leftists.

No, but you’ll have to brave the stench of white trash.

Yeah, right. It’s the “leftists” who always resort to violence first.

Taylon Breeden you have the right to protest Trump. But telling your people to grab every parking space around the Trump rally IS REALLY RUDE and childish. Same if Hillary comes to asheville.

Asheville: where the Trump protest reached full capacity days before the Trump event.

(And Hillary will be in town at some point, for sure, except her crowd won’t be schlepping all the way up from Hendersonville and Aiken and Murphy.)

By all means go and protest the Trump rally. Every time you people show up to protest, Trump’s poll numbers go up.

A reminder to those of you who are in this country illegally and plan to attend this event, you could find yourself face to face with ICE and on your way to the local deportation center. US Immigration law calls for immediate deportation of all illegal aliens and it does not give exceptions or grant the right for delaying court hearings. Those who protect illegal aliens need to be aware that entering this country illegally is considered a federal crime and those who hide them or assist them in escaping capture could find themselves at risk of charges of aiding and abetting in the commission of a crime. Be sure you all have legally issued ID in your possession. Those who use this protest to commit a crime could end up in jail and being also charged with the cost of the damages inflicted by your group. Use your brains.

You might also want to consider that if your protest gets out of hand it could cost the city of Asheville future revenue fro organizations seeking to rent these highly expensive venue sites. The taxpayers and the government officials will not thank you for the financial loss of this revenue or for loss of visitor dollars to the local businesses just so you can shoot off your mouths.

Yes sir. Freedom of speech is great, so long as you don’t say the wrong thing, eh sir? Shutting up now sir.

      Oh, but one more thing:

“The taxpayers and the government officials will not thank you for the financial loss of this revenue or for loss of visitor dollars to the local businesses just so you can shoot off your mouths.”

Hey sir, lay off the HB2 supporters!

Go to the Trump rally on Monday, check out the attendees, and you’ll understand that when it comes to today’s GOP … “all politics is yokel”.

It was insane. From “Trump that Bitch!” to “Build the wall” (with Pink Floyd-esque buttons to match) to “You’re a cultural cancer” to, and I sh*t you not, “Rock, flag and eagle, baby! Rock, flaaaag and eagle!” (from Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

Oh, and white dude in a sombrero festooned with Trump stickers, and another dude handing out Seuss-esque children’s books of right-wing hate against Obama, Hillary, and Al Gore. Some dude actually yelled, apropos of nothing, “Al Gore SUCKS!”

        WTH people?
