Griffin graduated from North Buncombe High School last year. He was last seen by family members Oct. 16 and was reported missing to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office on Friday.

Family members had distributed fliers with his name and photo around Weaverville asking for information. Authorities said they could not say whether foul play was involved until the autopsy is complete.

Bobby Griffin

Updated, 6:48 p.m.: The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body that was found in Lake Louise in Weaverville as 20-year-old Bobby Ray Griffin III.

From WLOS:

Police say (Griffin) was reported missing on Friday and the subject of a missing person report from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. A walker noticed the body at the bottom of a steep bank below the walking trail that surrounds the lake and called 911.

Investigators arrived and spent hours Monday morning in a boat looking for clues along the shores. Around 3 p.m. a forensic diver carefully put Griffin’s body in a bag and moved it to a shallow area near a playground here. Rescue workers moved it to an ambulance waiting on Lakeshore Drive.

A friend of Bobby Griffin says he was a quiet but helpful student who often picked up trash on the campus they attended together. Weaverville Police say they don’t know what happened to Griffin and they will wait on the results of an autopsy to determine how he died.
