Citizen-Times: Man arrested in alleged restroom rape

The assailant attacked a stranger in the restroom at the Cook-Out fast food restaurant on Tunnel Road, knocking her unconscious by repeatedly ramming her head into the wall, and then raping her.

According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, Mars Hill College student Kadeem Tyren Fahim Smith, 22, was arrested Friday in connection with the crime. Smith is charged with second-degree attempted rape, assault by strangulation and a second-degree sexual offense. His bond was set at $500,000.

City police had asked for help in identifying a suspect in the incident, which happened in the early hours of Sept. 16 at the Cook-Out on Tunnel Road. The woman told police the suspect trapped her in the bathroom and assaulted her. Police released a surveillance video image of the suspect near the scene.
