There are three great ways to celebrate Bob Moog’s 78 birthday on Wednesday: by eating out or buying merchandise to support the Bob Moog Foundation, and by watching this cool time-lapse video of the making of a great new Moog mural.

Eat at Early Girl
On Wednesday, Early Girl restaurant on Wall Street will donate 20 percent of all sales from breakfast, lunch and dinner to the Bob Moog Foundation in Asheville. May 23 is the birthday of Moog, the electronic music pioneer who made Asheville his home. Moog often dined at Early Girl with his daughter, Michelle, before he died in 2007. Customers who donate at least $1 to the foundation on that date will be entered into a raffle to win one of several prizes. Call 259-9292 to make a reservation.

Buy merch
Here’s the press release: In celebration of Bob Moog’s 78th birthday Moog Music, Inc. will donate 50% of all online clothing and merchandise sales on May 23rd to the Bob Moog Foundation. For every $350 raised, the company will also donate one Etherwave Theremin to the Foundation’s educational initiative, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, to complete the DBSS Educational Kit that is provided to each participating school. Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool teaches elementary school students the science of sound through the magic of music.

Moog Music will feature a brand new line of product-inspired apparel boasting graphics bold enough to induce a geekfest for synth enthusiasts everywhere. DVDs, CDs, mugs and other ephemera will be part of the benefit promotion.

Moog Music clothing and merchandise can be purchased from the company’s online store: www.moogmusic.com/products/clothing and www.moogmusic.com/products/merch. Moog instruments are not included in this annual fundraising event for the Bob Moog Foundation.

Finally, here’s the video (thanks to Blog Asheville for the heads-up):
