To celebrate the upcoming opening of South Slope’s highly anticipated whole hog barbecue joint, the team at Buxton Hall Barbecue and its friendly neighbors at Catawba Brewing Co. have teamed up to host an exciting summer series to share a taste of what’s to come once Buxton Hall opens its doors in August. Taking place within the restaurant’s outdoor space, the countdown events will feature sneak samples of Buxton Hall’s slow-cooked, whole hog barbecue, new releases of Catawba brews, and live entertainment from some of Asheville’s favorite bands.
The series kicked off last Saturday, June 20, and Buxton Hall Barbecue co-owner Elliott Moss and Catawba Brewing Co. operations manager Shelton Steele are excited to keep the momentum going a patriotic celebration for the Fourth of July, complete with mouthwatering barbecue and ice-cold brews. From noon to 9 p.m., locals and visitors are invited to relax and embrace our nation’s independence while enjoying live music from The Jangling Sparrows, Stevie Lee Combs, Okafur, and The Cheeksters.
“We are thrilled to join forces with our friends at Buxton Hall Barbecue to throw one heck of an all-American beer and barbecue bash for the Fourth,” says Catawba Brewing’s Shelton Steele. “Not only will there be good food, new beer releases and live music, but we are especially excited to once again show off our beautiful outdoor space. We plan on breaking out some sprinklers for the kids to jump through, and hopefully people will be able to catch a great view of the fireworks at Memorial Field, just around the corner.”
Giving diners the final opportunity to experience the tastes of Buxton Hall before its official opening, the event on Saturday, July 25, will conclude the series, with suds and snacks starting at 2 p.m. and sounds from Fireside Collective, a bluegrass band out of West Asheville, playing from 3 to 5 p.m.
The series kickoff event on Saturday, June 20, marked the launch of Catawba Brewing Co.’s summer session IPA, “Astral Booty,” and the brewery is excited to debut a big, bold and American beer, “Brewtal Double IPA,” at the Fourth of July blowout. To wash down Buxton barbecue on Saturday, July 25, thirsty guests can enjoy the release of Catawba’s fresh and quenching pale ale, “Mother Trucker.”
