Friday, Dec. 4, Asheville Music Hall proudly presents the 9th Annual Brown Bag Songwriting Competition Finals. Featuring each of this season’s weekly semi-finalists, the Brown Bag Finals will showcase the best in Western North Carolina’s songwriting community all competing for a $1000 price including a $500 cash prize and studio time at Echo Mountain. Tickets for the finals are on sale now and are available at Eventbrite.com for only $10. Tickets will also include admission to the AMP Social taking place just prior to the finals at 6pm. VIP tickets are $15 and guarantee you a seat as well as other perks.

Now in it’s 9th year, the Brown Bag Original Songwriting Competition takes place each Fall and features local and regional musicians of varying experience levels competing weekly for a brown lunch bag stuffed with donations offered by fans and attendees throughout the evening and entry into the finals competition at the end of the twelve-week series. Brown Bag attracts first time as well as seasoned performers to compete and be heard by peers, music fans, and music industry professionals alike. Over 100 aspiring musicians will have competed in the 2015 Brown Bag’s weekly competitions for a spot in the upcoming finals. Each semi-finalist is selected by a panel of local judges and rated on the composition and performance of their original music.

Brown Bag is the only competition of its kind in Western North Carolina, and has even spawned a Brown Bag series in Boone, NC, about an hour from Asheville. In a region full of creativity and musicality, Brown Bag serves as the ground floor for Asheville’s emerging songwriting talent. “We are proud to provide a supportive listening environment for original music and elevate the craft of songwriting,” says Jenny Greer-Fares, founder of Brown Bag. “It’s all about original music and the search for variety and individuality.”

Prior to the finals competition, Asheville Music Professionals (AMP) will host a networking social. AMP provides education, advocacy, connection and collaboration for musicians and music professionals who thrive in the Buncombe County arts scene. The social will be a place for the music community to learn more about AMP’s projects and endeavors. A Brown Bag ticket allows entrance to both events.
