Ashvegas reader: Have Asheville airport flight patterns changed?

   I live in Hend. Co. about 5 miles away from the ARA as a crow flies, and for the past 4 wks. there’s been a 10-fold number of flights going & coming over my area. Noise pollution really sux… Something must have happened lately. Perhaps ARA is now a “International” airport? IDK, but I hate it. I can’t even hear the birds in my yard any more, nor the radio if I’m sitting outside…

   Concerning the flight paths;
   I have seen a steady increase in flight traffic over the northwest side of Asheville. This is the Leicester Hwy area. The flight traffic is new and incredibly loud. Small planes would not be an issue, however these are the largest commercial flights coming into the Asheville airport. There is no doubt something has changed, however I can’t say wether it’s because of the runway construction or policy makers. I am very much thinking of starting an area wide petition if it continues.

   I live a few miles from the airport as a crow flies. I have not noticed a change in patterns, but maybe a change in traffic. The louder planes tend to be refueling military aircraft and don’t stick around long (middle of the week). There is several single engine planes that fly low and slow under 1000 feet. Law breakers. My opinion is that all planes should drop in for a landing and take off at a steep angle in order to keep the noise in check. South Asheville’s population density has grown over the last decade and the airport should change with growth. Won’t hurt the airport but it will help the way people think about it.
