vortexinteriordesign (1)Here’s some of what’s going around:

Vortex Doughnuts posted a stunning architectural rending of its new shop beginning to come together on Banks Ave. on the South Slope. Here’s what Ron Patton of Vortex says about it:

“It’s all open rafters, block walls, pipes, trusses, etc so we just went with it. We call it Industrial Chic meets Steampunk Lite. We’ll seat 30 (12 at two huge window bars and 18 at small tables). We’ll also have outdoor seating under the loading dock and at picnic tables in the west yard.”

-Construction underway: Work has started again at the former Northside Grill & Bar location on Merrimon Avenue. Two years ago, the plan was for a new restaurant called Appalachian Tavern to replace the old Northside. No word yet on what’s up next, though an Ashvegas reader says word is it will be a new began restaurant.

-Renovation work has also started again on the former Barbecue Inn along Patton Avenue. Permits have been pulled under the name “Patton Public House.” Details to come.

The Barleycorn and Twin Leaf Brewery will host a beer dinner during Asheville Beer Week. The date is May 27. Cost is $55 per person, with tickets available at Barleycorn and Twin Leaf. “Beer Porn at the B-Corn” will feature five beers from Twin Leaf and four courses from The Barleycorn. The event will be held at The Barleycorn, 697 Haywood Road, West Asheville. Doors open at 6pm.

-Fox & Beggar, a new theater group in Asheville, released a trailer for the first show it just staged at Montford Park called Animalia. Pretty cool.
