Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want. Some of what’s going around:

-Women of Waking Life are uniting: Word on the street is that several of the women who involved in the Waking Life scandal are getting together this weekend. The women were the were the targets, and later the blog/Twitter/podcast fodder, of Waking Life coffee shop owners Jared Rutledge and Jacob Owens. The two posted their sexual exploits in those online formats/forums under the name Holistic Game, and what they said was often angry, vile and misogynistic. The women have come together for friendship and support and are referring to themselves as “Girl Gang.”

-Desirant now open: Desirant, a boutique that features fashion, art accessories and home decor, has opened on the ground floor of the Windsor Hotel on Broadway in downtown Asheville.

-Word on the street: A shop called Sweet Buns is opening in the former Dough space along Merrimon Avenue. More as I get it.

-Minx expands upstairs: Minx, the popular downtown Asheville women’s clothing store at 64 N. Lexington Ave., has expanded upstairs, where they sell home goods, gifts, accessories and bath and body products.

-New Asheville coloring book: I just got this cool note from loyal reader Travis. Check it:

I just wanted to let you know about a new Asheville Coloring Book that I’ve started printing last week. Since Ashvegas features the lowdown on discrete Asheville happenings, I wanted to share it with you. Currently it’s only available at L.O.F.T. on Broadway, and my Etsy store: etsy.com/shop/SproutedScribbles
It features Asheville landmarks and historic buildings. I’ll continue printing more according to its popularity, and I’m currently looking for more places in town to carry this Asheville-made coloring book.
All the best with Ashvegas.com!
The Asheville Coloring Book listing is located here:

-Coffee on the go: Motorcycle Coffee Club, or MOCO, is a new mobile coffee cart that has opened on Pack Square in downtown Asheville. The cart has an espresso machine built over the sidecar of a classic 1973 motorcycle. The woman-owned business plans to celebrate it’s grand opening on Sept. 27 in conjunction with the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, a ride that involves a bunch of guys dressing up and riding their cafe racers (and other motorcycles) to raise money for prostate cancer.

News came back in April that they weren’t going forward with it . . . haven’t heard anything else about what might go in there instead.
