Just some of what’s going around:

-Asheville police officer dies: Asheville Police Department Officer Rob Bingaman died in a freak accident on Tuesday when the police cruiser he was driving west across the Bowen Bridge slammed into a guardrail, flipped over it and fell about 50 feet straight down. The N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating. Witnesses have told WLOS and the Asheville Citizen-Times that the officer was not running with lights and a siren. This is the first time I can ever remember a vehicle driving off that bridge.

-New Haywood Road food truck lot? That’s the word from this facebook post from Tamara Puffer:

My husband stopped at the food truck in the gas station. The owner told him he just leased the run down gas station next to Lucky Otter for 10 years. He’s going to bring in several food trucks and have some outdoor games there as well. The food trucks will be available morning, noon and night. It seems this will be an improvement. I guess he’s going to start in a couple of weeks.

Following up on this.

-Word on the street: Word is that Rebecca Sulock, former arts and entertainment editor at the Mountain Xpress, has landed at Planet Zeus Media, the company that produces Bold Life, Verve and a couple of other print magazines. They also own Hendersonville Scoop. Sulock will work as an editor, but not sure in what capacity.

-Halloween in West Asheville: Folks, be aware that traffic is going to be crazy along Haywood Road in West Asheville on Thursday. Residents have received permission to blockade Vermont Avenue for trick-or-treaters, and they are expecting 1,000 or more Halloween funsters. The best place to park would be down at the West Asheville Park, via Brevard Road and Davenport. The Brew Pump on the corner will be hosting a food truck, costume contest and zombie walkers.

-Brevard and biking: Big biking honors for Brevard here in getting named a top 10 mountain bike destination in North America.

-More Halloween: Still looking for Halloween fun? Check these events:

The Mothlight in West Asheville is hosting a free Halloween party at their music club, featuring The Down Strokes, The Tills and The Beat Kids. Music starts at 9 p.m.

Guests at The Time Travelers’ Masquerade will don fashions inspired by the Doctor’s career (or those of other time travelers), or period clothing ranging from Victorian steampunk to Renaissance, Medieval to post-modern. Asheville Face & Body Art will provide their distinctive, hand-painted body art masks for cash donations, and full-size TARDIS and Dalek props will appear courtesy of Cosplay Kasterborous!

On Friday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m., Santa Claus will escort a horse-drawn carriage delivering Biltmore’s holiday centerpiece, a 40-foot Fraser fir, to the front doors of Biltmore House to kick off Christmas at Biltmore. The tree will spend the holidays in the 72-foot-high Banquet Hall, adorned with lights, gifts and ornaments.

The tree raising and decorations set the stage for Christmas at Biltmore, Nov. 2, 2013, through Jan. 12, 2014.

-Watch the World Series: The Cinebarre movie house will screen the World Series tonight at 8:07. Boston can win it all in Fenway, a feat fans haven’t seen in nearly a century.

-Reznor on the town: In case you missed this: Rocker Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails bought a big piece of artwork at ZaPow! gallery while he was in Asheville for the Mountain Oasis music festival. He also stopped by the Asheville Pinball Museum. Fun!
