Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want.Some of what’s going around:

-West Asheville car thefts: Folks on the ever-popular WAX page on Facebook report that four cars in West Asheville have been stolen recently. Commenters report that three cars on Fairfax Avenue have been stolen recently, and that one car on Rideway Drive was stolen last night.

-NYT photos: Awesome Asheville photographer Mike Belleme had a nice spread in the New York Times this past weekend. His photos illustrated a story about the hot race between U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan and N.C. Speaker of the House Thom Tillis.

-Adoption expo: Looking to adopt a child? There will be an Adoption Options Expo from 1-4 p.m. on Nov. 8 at Pack Memorial Library. The event is free and meant “to provide a free and information-rich opportunity for folks to learn more about adoption.”

-Cool Craft Market: HandMade in America, in partnership with Blue Ridge Food Ventures, will host the annual Cool Craft Market at 125 S. Lexington Ave. Ste. 101, Asheville (entrance on Hilliard between Church Street and Lexington Avenue), on the following dates: Friday, December 12 from 5-8 pm; Saturday, December 13 from 10 am-6 pm; and Sunday, December 14 from 12 pm- 4 pm. This market will feature more than 40 local craft, food, and natural product makers from around the mountains.

-Legendary Locals: From UNC Asheville News Service:

Kevan Frazier, Asheville native and author of Legendary Locals of Asheville, will give a book talk at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 4 in UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. Frazier’s book explores the stories of unique individuals and groups who have had a lasting impact on the Asheville community… This event is free and open to the public… A UNC Asheville alumnus, Frazier is the founder of Asheville by Foot Walking Tours.

-Evans gets a nod: Jody Evans, president and CEO of Western North Carolina Public Radio Inc., which operates WCQS, has been named president and CEO of the Public Radio Program Directors Association.

-Cheese Fest: The first Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest will be held April 26, 2015, at Highland Brewing, according to a press release. The event is in support of the WNC Cheese Trail, a nonprofit that promotes the production of local cheese in the area and promotes tourism around it.
