-World Cup at the Orange Peel: From loyal reader Liz at the Orange Peel:

The OP is the spot to watch free Women’s World Cup Soccer! First game we’re showing is Monday, June 8th at 7:30 (USA vs Australia). Entrance is free! As we did last year for men, we will have a table manned by ABYSA where people can donate to youth soccer in our area if they so choose! Bar will be open – plenty of seating out, so we expect a big turn out! Go USA!

-LAAFF is back: The Lexington Avenue Arts and Fun Fest is returning this year, according this notice. The date is Sept. 5.

-Mamacita’s expanding: Mamacita’s announced over the weekend that it is planning to open a new taco stand on Charlotte Street, in the just-closed location of Two Guys Hoagies.

-Construction has started at 37 N. Lexington, in space next to the LAB in downtown Asheville. The site was to be LAB expansion. It looks like they’re creating two new spaces for retail businesses.

-Webo’s BBQ is working on a new restaurant in River Ridge shopping center in East Asheville. Webo’s currently has a great barbecue eatery next to a gas station on Swannanoa River Road.

-A Taste of El Salvador restaurant is planning to open on Patton Avenue near Malvern Hills in West Asheville.

-The former Kosta’s clothing store in downtown Asheville is set to be the site of a another big new hotel.ingles_food_drive_2015

-Hunger in a headlock: Eblen Charities will be hosting three professional wrestling starts on Wednesday, June 9, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Edge, Beth Phoenix and Jim Ross will be at the Tunnel Road Ingles for a food drive. The drive continues through June 12 at other area Ingles stores.

-WLOS food drive: There’s another food drive this week, as well. This one is sponsored by WLOS. Press release:

News 13, Carolina Furniture Concepts, and Two Men & a Truck are hosting the third annual Break the Hunger food drive to help keep kids from going hungry during summer break. The station is asking viewers to bring non-perishable food items on Friday, June 12 to Carolina Furniture Concepts in Arden at 2617 Hendersonville Road between 4:30AM to 7PM and in Waynesville from 9AM to 7PM.

Staff and volunteers from News 13 and the recipient nonprofit organizations will collect canned goods, formula, rice and other non-perishables. Other essential items like diapers, toothpaste, and toilet paper will also be accepted. All of the items donated will go to Children First/Communities In Schools of Buncombe County and Communities In Schools of the Great Smoky Mountains, who will then distribute the food and items to the children and families they serve.

-El Que Pasa Express is planning on opening in the former Athenian Bistro location on Biltmore Ave near McCormick Field.

-Blue Dream Curry is open: The new curry restaurant is now open in downtown Asheville. Here’s the press release:

    How long has the blue dream curry people been locals? I bet they moved here from Ohio six months ago. There seems to be a pattern of people relocating here and using the word local on everything they do to validate the fact that they aren’t local.

    Blue Dream Curry is on 81 Patton Ave. near Pritchard Park, by the way, since it wasn’t mentioned in either the article or the press release.
