-The second location of Wedge Brewing Co., one of Asheville’s fave craft breweries, is officially opening to the public on Tuesday. The location is on Foundy Street off of Riverside Drive, behind Riverview Station. The original Wedge location, on Payne’s Way in the bottom of the Wedge Studios building, is just north of the new location and will continue business as usual. The new location, with 8,000 square feet of space, outdoor seating and a new brewhouse will include an event space and will allow the brewery to double its beer production.
-The Asheville Area Arts Council is teaming up with local textile artist Barbara Zaretsky to present T E X T I L E S: Traditional to modern | hand woven to hand-dyed. An opening reception and artist talk will be held from 5-8 p.m.. on March 3. These seven artists express their evolving response to the world through textiles: Cassie Dickson, Catharine Ellis, Vicki Essig, Heather Allen Hietala, Amy Putansu, Kathie Roig and Zaretsky.
-The popular Overeasy Cafe on Broadway has announced this it will close on Wednesday for a major renovation that will take about a month.
-The town of Marshall will celebrate Fat Tuesday with the Marshall Gras Crawl beginning at 5 p.m. at the new Star Diner restaurant. Here’s more from a press release:
Follow the sounds of Stephen Davidowski and Company through Mainstreet in Downtown Marshall to specially prepared New Orleans inspired cuisine, libations, live entertainment and local charm. The Marshall Gras Crawl begins at 5:00pm at the Star Diner and will tour through seven locally owned Mainstreet locations, all ending with friends and festivities at The Sweet Monkey Cafe. -The Rainbow Institute, an arm of Rainbow Community School of West Asheville is hosting its annual More than Mindfulness Conference Oct. 6-7.
-Asheville GreenWorks will hold its annual Environmental Excellence Awards from 6-9 p.m. on March 23 at the Asheville Masonic Temple. The awards, to be emceed by WCQS reporter Helen Chickering, will honor outstanding achievements in environmental sustainability by individuals, organizations, schools and businesses located in Asheville and throughout Buncombe County, according to a press release. The evening will include beer, wine and heavy hors d’oeuvres. A children’s area with activities will be available for guests twelve and under with childcare included. Tickets are $55 for General Admission ($10 discount for Asheville GreenWorks members); $25 for Young Adults (25 and under); and $15 for children 16 and under with a ticketed adult (includes kid-friendly meal and childcare).
-The Buncombe County Democratic Party reported record attendance at precinct meetings on Saturday. More than 1,500 people in 73 precincts met to elect precinct officials and county party convention delegates, introduce party resolutions, and hear from speakers, according to a press release.
