More of what’s going around:

-The popular Black Mountain-based Red Radish catering company/bake shop is planning to open a Sweeten Creek Road location in September. “No, not leaving Black Mountain, just expanding to make our gourmet dinners available and convenient to more people. We love our little town,” the Radish responded to a questioner on Facebook. Redefine Facility Cleaning and Sulaski Tinsley Design Studio are also planning to open in the same Sweeten Creek Road shopping center.

-A new business called Pete’s Pies is coming to East Walnut Street according to building permits.

-Work is continuing on the remodeling of the former Scully’s bar and grill on Walnut Street. Word on the street is that the new restaurant coming in will feature Mexican food.

-The brand new Southern Season gourmet grocery store that just opened in Biltmore Village is closing, according to WRAL.com. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June and coming out of bankruptcy, the company’s new owner plans to keep the Chapel Hill flagship open will closing stores in Asheville, Raleigh and Charleston, the TV station reports.

Construction on Mission Hospital’s new building just off Biltmore Avenue will include blasting on Tuesday. The blast will go off at 1:30 p.m., with a prior warning sound, the Asheville Citizen-Times reports. There will be blasts over the next nine weeks, with up to one a day Monday through Friday, the newspaper reports.

-The owners of Intentional Swine are seeking $25,000 in crowdfunding via Kickstarter to help them open a new butcher shop in West Asheville.

Asheville Pizza and Brewing’s new Say You Say Me Saison will be released on Friday at 5 p.m. at both the Merrimon Avenue and Coxe Avenue brewpubs, on draft only. This light, dry, fruity saison was aged on in-house smoked citrus fruit fruits, which adds both a touch of tartness and a touch of smoke, according to a press release, which adds: “Pairs well with quesadillas, lemon bars, and Lionel.”

-The Appalachian Trail Conservancy invites hikers, members and friends of the Appalachian Trail to attend its Hiker Happy Hour celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Salvage Station in Asheville, according to a press release. More:

This event is free and open to the public and offers an opportunity for A.T. enthusiasts to share their passion for the Trail while enjoying good food and drinks. ATC staff will be on site to answer questions about the Trail and provide hiking tips. Attendees who are ATC members will also be able to participate in a raffle for a variety of A.T.-themed prizes. Those who are not currently members will be able to apply at the event with an ATC staff member.

Blue Mountain Urology and Haywood Regional Medical Center will be offering prostate screenings on Saturday Sept. 24,  for  $20, according to a press release. Here’s more:

If you are 50 and older, or if you are over 40 with an immediate family history of prostate cancer, it’s time to schedule your annual screening. To make an appointment, call 828-452-9700 to schedule your PSA (blood test) and exam with Dr. Hooper or Dr. Steele.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) recommends that men have a chance to make an informed decision with their health care provider about whether to be screened for prostate cancer. The decision should be made after getting information about the uncertainties, risks, and potential benefits of prostate cancer screening. Men should not be screened unless they have received this information.
