Here’s more of what’s going around:

-Here’s some breaking news from AshevilleFM’s variety talk show Slumber Party, hosted by Jake Frankel and Michele Scheve this afternoon: The Montford Pull-Up, the awesome little restaurant-in-a-convenience store in the Montford neighborhood, is planning to open a second location inside The Orange Peel. The little eatery will be called Pull-Up at the Peel, and is still in the works, Pull-Up co-owner Matt Howell announced. The Pull-Up is on a roll. Just this past weekend, the joint won not one, but two, big awards at the Asheville Wing War. Read Stu Helm’s coverage of the Wing War here.

-The Southern Conference Basketball Tournament wrapped up play on Monday at the US Cellular Center with a great men’s championship game featuring the top two teams: the top-ranked UNC Greensboro and the second-ranked East Tennessee State University. UNCG dominated the first half, but ETSU came storming back and held on to win the game, and a ticket to the NCAA Tournament, in thrilling fashion. It was a great end to a full weekend of a tournament that featured the only Division 1 basketball competition in the entire state this year. That’s because the NCAA and the ACC pulled its tournament games out of North Carolina in protest of passage of last year’s controversial HB2, or “bathroom bill.” Now the question is: will the Southern Conference tournament come back to Asheville (and North Carolina) next year?

-Asheville is getting a hydration therapy clinic.

-Correction: The long-awaited Sky Zone trampoline park is getting close to opening in South Asheville, but officials say they still don’t have a specific opening date yet. The trampoline park, off Hendersonville Road, has a variety of attractions: an American Ninja Warrior-esque course; a dodgeball room; a bouldering wall; and more. This will be Asheville’s second indoor trampoline park, following the opening of Launch in Arden last year.

-We might see some snow on Sunday.

-TheWest Coast-based yeast-maker White Labs, which is opening a lab on Charlotte Street in Asheville, is also opening a tap room and restaurant. They’re looking for a general manager to oversee it. Here’s more about the White Labs job opening:

As part of the expansion at our Eastern U.S. facility in Asheville, NC we will be opening a tap room and full service restaurant. To help drive that project forward, develop the training/operating standards and lead the staff, we will be looking to bring a General Manager onto the team. …
The General Manager is responsible for overall operation of the tap room and restaurant (front and back of house) located in Asheville, NC. The position is the primary contact for all vendors related to the operation of the Tap Room. This role will provide direct oversight to Kitchen Manager/Chef as well as FOH leadership. They’ll set the culture and tone of the work environment while actively supporting the management team and effectively running shifts. This role reports directly to the Vice President.

Pizza Mind restaurant is now open on Haywood Road in West Asheville.

Hanger Hall School for Girls, a middle school for girls, is hosting open houses for interested families on March 9 and April 4, 5:30-7:30 p.m., according to a press release. The school is located at 64 W.T. Weaver Blvd. in Asheville. Call (828) 258-3600 or RSVP to [email protected].

Asheville City Market is moving. Here’s more from the press release:

Asheville City Market, one of the region’s vibrant farmers markets, is moving to a new, street-closed location in downtown Asheville. Starting on April 1, Asheville City Market will be open on North Market Street, between Woodfin Street and East Walnut Street, where shoppers can enjoy open-air shopping for goods offered by local farmers, craftspeople, bakers, and other vendors.

“The goal of Asheville City Market has always been to be a destination market for Asheville residents as well as visitors to the region,” said Mike McCreary, Asheville City Market Manager. “The relocation will allow the market to grow, both in the number of vendors as well as in the number of people served every week. This new location improves opportunities for local farms to reach a broader customer base and build more connections with downtown businesses .”

Asheville City Market was launched in April 2008 as a program of ASAP (Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project) to support economically sustainable agriculture and enhance market access for farmers.

In addition to seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables, vendors from across Western North Carolina provide specialty food products which include cheeses, grassfed meat, homemade pasta, eggs, jams and preserves, artisan breads, baked goods, honey, plants, artisan crafts, and much more. A “producer only” market, each vendor literally has a hand in growing, producing, or crafting their products, giving shoppers the opportunity to meet farmers and artisans, learning more about opportunity to meet farmers and artisans in our community. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or electronic food stamps, have been accepted since Asheville City Market opened, and Asheville City Market will continue to welcome SNAP shoppers.

Free parking for Asheville City Market is available at the HomeTrust Bank lot as well as the lot across from the YMCA at 35 Woodfin Street. Paid parking is also available at the Buncombe County parking deck off of College Street for $1 per hour. Market hours are 8 am to noon, April through October. The market will be held on North Market Street through December with special holiday hours before it moves indoors at the Asheville Masonic Temple for the winter.
