Here’s more of what’s going around, including

-Garden Party, a new retail space offering “elevated objects, apothecary products, curated vintage finds, and other unique sundries” is set to open at 474 Haywood Road in West Asheville inside the home of what was formerly known as The Drygoods Shop and will now be known as The Drygoods Studios, according to a press release. Tarleton Walmsley and Seth Connelly, the owners/operators/co-founders, will celebrate the shop’s grand opening from 5-9 p.m. on Aug. 30. CBD-infused cocktails from Spirit Savvy Cocktails and small bites made by Atlanta-based chef Julia LeRoy of Produce and Provide will be served up. The Drygoods Studios​ will continue to host current tenants Overlap Sewing Studio, Brandon Pass Architect, Night Heron Studio, and New Life CBD. Garden Party will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays noon to 5 p.m.

-Roanline, a local outdoor clothing and accessories retailer, has opened on Haywood Road in West Asheville.

-The Awesome Foundation of Asheville awarded a $1,000 grant on Sunday to Jazmin Francesca, an Asheville yoga teacher who wants to bring yoga pop-up events to the underserved communities. Her Blk Girl Affirming effort plans to use the money to buy yoga mats, blocks, blankets and other equipment for the events at community centers and public housing complexes. The Awesome Foundation of Asheville is a local chapter of a national group that hands out no-strings-attached grants to people who aim to make local communities “more awesome,” and they’re looking for new trustees. Hit ’em up.

-The Biltmore Estate has announced its next costume exhibition, coming in spring 2019. It’s called “A Vanderbilt House Party: Guests, Grandeur & Galas,” and it will include recreated clothing to mimic what folks would have worn to a Vanderbilt gala in the 1920s era, according to Romantic Asheville. The annual exhibitions, which have included collections of costumes from the popular “Downton Abbey” series on PBS and the original “Titanic” Hollywood blockbuster, have

-Lindsay Craven has taken over as the booking agent and “artist relations manager” for Merlefest, one of the biggest annual music festivals in Western North Carolina. She takes the reigns from Steve Johnson, who held that post for about six years. Craven, who has worked on the Merlefest staff for several years, has been overseeing the Yadkin Arts Council and Willingham Theater for five years and also worked as the sole reporter at The Yadkin Ripple for a couple of years. Johnson has taken a job as tour manager for the Steep Canyon Rangers.

-Gonnzalez Diaz Enterprise will present the 11th annual Miss Gay Latina Asheville pageant at 7:30 p.m on Nov. 3 at Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville, according to a press release. Contestants will compete in traditional costume native to their country of representation, talent and evening gown. “This unique event in the city of Asheville promises to be an evening of elegance and beauty, including artistic and cultural presentations,” according to the release. The event will include current and former national titleholders, as well as a professional dance group from Miami, along with special guest, drag star Taina Norell.

-Asheville Outlets will partner with Splurge – Custom Lighting, Antiques & Art to host a Community Yard Day on Saturday, Sept.15 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. The event will be held in the parking lot outside of the Gap Factory Outlet. (Asheville Outlets is located on Brevard Road.) The Community Yard Sale will feature various yard sale booths set-up by residents and businesses. Habitat for Humanity ReStore will also be there to take donations.
